Thirsty Thursday: Green, Yellow, Red light!

Go for Green® uses a stoplight system to label foods and beverages as Green, Yellow, or Red. G4G dining facilities display Food Cards that identify the nutrition quality (Green, Yellow, or Red) and sodium content (Low, Moderate, or High) of foods and drinks.

For example, why is chocolate milk a Yellow-coded beverage? The military promotes it as a good recovery drink after workout/PT. Due to its protein and carbohydrate content, chocolate milk can be an appropriate “Green” recovery drink after intense or long workouts. Without the benefit of exercise, chocolate milk might be too high in sugar and calories for your eating plan—and is coded Yellow outside of workout routines.

Enjoy this week’s recipe featuring the blackberry, it is currently in season for the month of May in Arizona.
